Maha (50, mother of 2 sons, 34 and 30 years old) left her husband behind, he was too weak to

make it to the other side, her son stayed with him to take care of him. Now she looks after an 8 year old boy,

who lost his parents in the bombings. His mother was her friend. The caring keeps her fear under control.

Samrah (32, mother of three children 10, 9 and 3 years old) travelled through woods, through

mountains and over seas with 50 people in a boat fit for 25. It was cold and the children cried,

"I never warmed up" she said. The future is dark for as long as her 2 older children are still in the war zone.

Rem (27, mother of 4 children 9, 7, 5 and 3 years old) was surrounded by bombings and soldiers.

One night she and her husband decided to leave. Luckely the whole family survived after a long journey.

Sara (28, mother of 5 children 12, 10, 8, 7 and 4) has traveled for 6 weeks. Afraid the boat would split in two,

she tried to comfort her kids, but never had enough hands to hold all of them. 5 years ago she was safe,

she could walk the boulevards of Damascus, free to go wherever she wanted. That life is far away now.
